LUMINOUS BLOOM

Painting

Oil on canvas

My body of work uses light and contrast to represent the ethereal beauty and dramatic complexity of jellyfish. The paintings examine the concepts of bioluminescence and translucency, conveying how the delicate, flowing forms appear to glow in deep, aquatic environments. Jellyfish are the perfect subject to investigate light and movement, their see-through bodies and natural mysterious glow offering a fascinating challenge. I used oil paints on canvas and painted the background dark to make a strong contrast that communicates the sense of bioluminescence.

My artmaking practice has been influenced by the study and interpretation of the following artists: Ernst Haekel; Zaria Forman.
