Suspension in Sublimity

Photomedia

Exploration and reflection on the sheer breadth of nature can result in feelings of being lost, alienated or absorbed in the environment. My body of work represents the sense of complete disorientation and self-negation provoked by the sublime. The symmetry of the images and varying depths of the immersive and extruding elements express feelings of boundlessness, inviting the audience to inspect the intricacy of the work more fastidiously. The relative extremes of scale, the contrast between darkness and brightness, complexity and simplicity, and sharp and flat surfaces are all intended to arouse intense perceptual experiences.

The study and interpretation of the artist Bill Viola have influenced my artmaking practice.
