Occupational Portraits

Photomedia, photos, ink, paper, drawing

My work attempts to create a visual autobiography of the de-identified people that make up our society, known by simply their occupation. My choice of subject comes from a place of intuition and is fuelled by an impetuous desire to partake in the scenes of everyday life that unfold around me. Inspired by 19th century occupational portraits and Arnold Newman, my black and white environmental portraits bring attention to people that all of us encounter in our daily lives. I believe that collectively as individuals we must place more value on the brief encounters, daily conversations and unscripted times we experience every day.

An artistic orange brushstroke design forms abstract shapes on a white background. Overlaid on the design is the word "artexpress" in a sleek, modern black font. The orange brush strokes appear dynamic and free-flowing, with splatters and tapered ends.Simplified waratah flower in deep red colour with the words NSW Government in dark blue stacked underneath.
