Celestial Bodies

Printmaking

Etching, screenprinting ink on paper

My body of work, Celestial Bodies, explores the intricate relationship between humankind and our solar system. My intention is to celebrate the celestial bodies we interact with in our world. The work consists of 12 prints corresponding to the 12 zodiac star sign constellations. The star signs are represented in pairings with varying aspects of the moon. Using a range of printmaking techniques, each print is a unique collage of the moon, in various phases of its influence on Earth, layered with the different star sign constellations.

My artmaking practice has been influenced by the study and interpretation of the following artists: Claude Mellan, The Moon in its First Quarter, The Moon in its Final Quarter, Full Moon; Robert Rauschenberg, Buffalo II; Galileo Galilei, Two Views of the Moon, in Siderius Nuncius (The Starry Messenger).

ARTEXPRESS 2024 is a collaboration between NSW Department of Education and NSW Education Standards Authority, curated and presented by Hazelhurst Arts Centre.
