Urban Takeover: Cumberland Heritage

Printmaking

Drypoint acetate etching

Behind the urban development of Penrith lie relics of our past, historical and heritage sites that are memories of what used to be. My body of work was inspired by the idea that the presence of heritage buildings will fade over time and be ‘overtaken’ by modern industrialisation, represented by the stencils of apartment buildings. I intended to show the past and present, idealising heritage buildings to demonstrate the beauty of history, where images remain to remind us of the past. Contemporary infrastructure expresses how the once untouched Cumberland heritage is being overtaken.

My artmaking practice has been influenced by the study and interpretation of the artist Catherine O'Donnell.
