Blood is Thicker Than Oil

Painting, oil on canvas, board, brass

My body of work explores the father and son relationship harmoniously with how oil paint is applied to the surface. Thick and sometimes broken brushstrokes are used not only to communicate the subject but to also celebrate my chosen medium. I have further created rhythm as I experimented with different surfaces, some working with the oils whilst others proving more absorbent and time consuming. I believe this can also be said metaphorically of the spiritual bond a father shares with his son, and this bond, in most cases, can only strengthen and become more definitive with time.

An artistic orange brushstroke design forms abstract shapes on a white background. Overlaid on the design is the word "artexpress" in a sleek, modern black font. The orange brush strokes appear dynamic and free-flowing, with splatters and tapered ends.Simplified waratah flower in deep red colour with the words NSW Government in dark blue stacked underneath.
