The Pervasiveness of Self

Drawing

Charcoal, watercolour

My body of work is a series of self-portraits exploring the innate internal anxiety which we all experience. Self-portraiture provided me with the agency to not only create a physical likeness, but to understand the persona’s states of mind, providing insight into the stigma around male mental health. The equilibrium between precise and intuitive visceral marks alludes to the fact that there are things you can control and inevitably things you can’t control, but there should always be a desire to find a balance between the two.

An artistic orange brushstroke design forms abstract shapes on a white background. Overlaid on the design is the word "artexpress" in a sleek, modern black font. The orange brush strokes appear dynamic and free-flowing, with splatters and tapered ends.Simplified waratah flower in deep red colour with the words NSW Government in dark blue stacked underneath.
