Graphite and coloured pencil on paper / film

For my body of work I drew Hollywood-inspired portraits in inverted graphite, so the full effect of each drawing is only revealed through a negative filter. The two negative colour portraits represent Jim Carrey and Robin Williams. Robin Williams’s suicide revealed his dark and sorrowful side to the world – represented here through the different emotions in the two juxtaposed portraits.

My intent is to highlight just how little we can assume from someone’s public appearance, with the Jim Carrey portrait asking a cautionary ‘what if?’. The accompanying film explores the development of my work as if narrated by Morgan Freeman.
