Painting

Oil on canvas

My body of work addresses the efforts of women that go unnoticed in various parts of the world such as India, where women are often regarded as the second sex. On my visits to India I have seen that the women are not defined by stereotypes, so my work explores their strength, resilience and independence in running their own markets under harsh, strenuous conditions. Rather than providing a traditional representation of women as the passive object of the gaze, I represent their control and independence. My intent is to both embrace Indian culture and appreciate these women.
