“The surest way to corrupt a youth is to instruct him to hold in higher esteem those who think alike than those who think differently.” Friedrich Nietzsche

Our identities are shaped by conforming to predetermined standards and norms. My body of work examines the effects of societal pressures on personal authenticity, exploring the internal conflicts that arise from trying to fit into society’s predefined roles. Each piece represents a different constraint within the various niches of society into which we strive to fit. Conformity shapes our choices and behaviours; an invisible force to which we are blind.

My artmaking practice has been influenced by the study and interpretation of the following artists: Matthew Grabelsky, Alex Prager.

ARTEXPRESS 2024 is a collaboration between NSW Department of Education and NSW Education Standards Authority, curated and presented by Hazelhurst Arts Centre.
