Do You See Me Now?

Drawing

Ballpoint pen on paper

As we develop our individual identities we are influenced by society's social cues and gender stereotypes. My body of work, Do You See Me Now?, investigate the ways in which I express my gender identity to the world and the ways in which I perceive myself internally. My intent in these representations of clothing, accessories and makeup was to challenge the audience’s perception of the gender binary. By using the ordinary ballpoint pen, I develop the idea that this is my everyday, and the everyday of so many others: that our identities are fluid.

My artmaking practice has been influenced by the study and interpretation of the following artists: Laith McGregor, Cindy Sherman, David Hockney.
