There are currently 3.5 billion smartphone users worldwide. While phones provide connectedness and fast access to information, they have also been proven to prohibit social and conversational skills. In my body of work, my intent was to expose the intrusion of smartphones into all aspects of society and human life, by representing the subjects with vacant gazes and incorporating smartphones into traditional portraits and paintings of hands. A harsh juxtaposition is created between traditional styles and the unexpected presence of the modern smartphone, emphasising how they have pervaded even the most unlikely settings.
