‘Sticks and Stones…’

Collection of Works, clay and acrylic paint on canvas

Sticks and Stones is a representation of racial discrimination. Through the influence of Ben Quilty, Peter Sharp, John Coburn and Albert Tucker's works, I have used clay bones to represent the title. The sculpture constitutes the individual with a cultural background as the 'skin' reveals quotes by others, and the parrot signifying Australians. Each phrase identifies words spoken by bullies, feelings that are felt and then words spoken by the mother. The shadow paintings portray the essence of time of the individual's growth and acceptance for their own identity.

An artistic orange brushstroke design forms abstract shapes on a white background. Overlaid on the design is the word "artexpress" in a sleek, modern black font. The orange brush strokes appear dynamic and free-flowing, with splatters and tapered ends.Simplified waratah flower in deep red colour with the words NSW Government in dark blue stacked underneath.
