Phases

Painting, acrylic on hardboard

'But even when the moon looks like it's waning...it's actually never changing shape. Don't ever forget that.' - Ai Yazawa.

A human's emotion undergoes a series of phases, much like the moon does. My painting 'phases' uses the idea of a moon's changing shadows to represent changes physically and emotionally in one's life. Through the manipulation of facial features as a result of shadows, the black space represents the dark times in a human's life, which is dynamic; varying in shapes and sizes. However, despite these hardships which may engulf us, we have the power to get through it.

An artistic orange brushstroke design forms abstract shapes on a white background. Overlaid on the design is the word "artexpress" in a sleek, modern black font. The orange brush strokes appear dynamic and free-flowing, with splatters and tapered ends.Simplified waratah flower in deep red colour with the words NSW Government in dark blue stacked underneath.
