Borrowing concepts of ‘ego’ and ‘shadow’ from Jungian psychology, my body of work explores the coexistence of the ‘eager consumer’ and the opposing ‘guilty realist’ within each of us in modern society. It is natural human behaviour to pursue self-preservation and comfort even at the expense of others’ suffering, yet it is also inevitable to be eaten up by the guilt of damaging the world every day through daily routines. This extends to the social damage of huge numbers of suffering sweatshop workers and the environmental damage that results from the overconsumption of resources.
