My body of work represents the cultural assimilation my ancestors experienced, resulting in my half-Korean and half-Russian ethnicity. My intent in using the metaphor of metamorphosis was to contextualise the relationship between my cultural identity and ethnic roots. Assimilation has left my family immersed in Russian culture while almost fully detaching us from our Korean heritage. This is expressed through the gradual transformation of colour, clothing and shapes, presenting an irreversible shift from one culture to another. René Magritte's surrealism influenced my work and use of juxtaposition and Frida Kahlo's explorations of cultural identity.

My artmaking practice has been influenced by the study and interpretation of the following artists: René Magritte and Frida Kahlo.
