Alongside Us

Graphic Design, digital work, watercolour on paper

Humanity has always found solace in the magic of mythology, from answering the deepest questions of the universe to consolidating the trivial, yet unexplainable cases of missing trinkets and random bouts of good fortune. Japanese and Chinese mythology, in particular, are numerous in the stories of creatures, demons, and seismic gods that provided a structure to the life of early East Asia.

Yet in the present day, an age of secularism and sceptualism, mythology finds it's place hidden and woven through childhood cartoons and the niche Wikipedia article. My collection of works, Alongside Us, aims to portray a world where the creatures from these myths, work, rest, and reside among us in their daily lives; projected against the Australian-Chinese Sydney-scape where these stories have found their way to me.

An artistic orange brushstroke design forms abstract shapes on a white background. Overlaid on the design is the word "artexpress" in a sleek, modern black font. The orange brush strokes appear dynamic and free-flowing, with splatters and tapered ends.Simplified waratah flower in deep red colour with the words NSW Government in dark blue stacked underneath.
