Beneath The Skin

Ceramics

Stoneware, ink on paper

My body of work is intended to subvert the technologically-driven nature of society by stripping down humans to their fundamental anatomy. My work is a series of biomorphic ceramics and ink-pen drawings that refer to the human body, representing bones, tissue and bone marrow. The abstraction of bones into 3D forms reveals a series of voids, allowing exploration of the internal and external at different angles. By representing humans’ inner framework, I intend to shed light on our often overlooked basic yet essential components. Beneath the skin, pigment and insecurities, we are all the same.

My artmaking practice has been influenced by the study and interpretation of the following artists: Joan Lurie, Pauline van der Heijden, and Henry Moore.
