Your Call

Time-Based Forms

Digital animation

In creating Your Call, I delved into concepts of self-imposed social anxiety and seclusion, drawing on personal experiences of introversion and the effect of my uncle's untimely death. My struggle with memories and the challenges of social connection found expression in my body of work through 2D animation. In juxtaposing rigid, blue tones and claustrophobic spaces with the inviting warmth of the external world, accentuates the sense of solitude. Your Call explores how introspection and the imperative to seize control form a dichotomy, and that it is 'your call' to take charge of life amid isolation.

My artmaking practice has been influenced by the study and interpretation of the following artists: Brett Morgen (dir), Stefan Nadelman and Hisko Hulsing (lead animators), Cobain: Montage of Heck; Caravaggio, The Calling of Saint Matthew; Edward Hopper, Nighthawks; Jeffrey Smart, Dampier II.
