Ode

Painting

Acrylic ink, wire on recycled paper

Ode is my personal artistic interpretation of the story of Shakespeare’s Ophelia and the ways in which human life is explored in literary works. My body of work represents not only the symbolic tragedy of Ophelia, but the ways in which life and death intertwine in nature. The paper itself represents the course of one’s life. I have used Ode to explore these themes in a way that subverts expectation, moving beyond the traditional depiction of skulls and darkness, choosing instead to focus on death and rebirth in nature.

An artistic orange brushstroke design forms abstract shapes on a white background. Overlaid on the design is the word "artexpress" in a sleek, modern black font. The orange brush strokes appear dynamic and free-flowing, with splatters and tapered ends.Simplified waratah flower in deep red colour with the words NSW Government in dark blue stacked underneath.
