Two paintings that evoke a swirling, rolling, under the waves feeling in colours of blue, green and gold.

Flow state

Painting

Acrylic painting on canvas

My body of work explores the temporary escape of being in a flow state of mind, where body and mind become fluid, concentrating on a task beyond the point of distraction. Over contorted representations of my body embraced by water, distinct lines indicate frustration with this environment’s impermanence, contrasting with an elaborate blend and gradient of colour to express a meditative and euphoric sensation. Similarly, the comfortable quality of brushing paint over a canvas ignites the contentment of being engulfed by water. In a flow state, I can paint for hours, and it feels like minutes.

My artmaking practice has been influenced by the study and interpretation of the following artists: Bella Luu, Julie Shackson, and Margarethe Vanderpas.
