“Nothing in a portrait is a matter of indifference. Gesture, grimace, clothing, decor even – all combine to realise a character.” Charles Baudelaire

Home Bodies represents my family and our communal space. The way we communicate and co-exist is dependent on the associations between us. My body of work focuses on these connections and emphasises the material and immaterial nature of our inherited existence. These familiar faces, concentrated upon for the time it takes to paint them, may seem to be superficial manifestations, but they are an expressionist trace of what has amassed through generations of relationships and spaces.

An artistic orange brushstroke design forms abstract shapes on a white background. Overlaid on the design is the word "artexpress" in a sleek, modern black font. The orange brush strokes appear dynamic and free-flowing, with splatters and tapered ends.Simplified waratah flower in deep red colour with the words NSW Government in dark blue stacked underneath.
