Bloodline

Painting

Oil on canvas

My family's personal experience, having to adjust to a completely different culture, influenced me to create my body of work. Bloodline expresses how my family views the world through its own lens. The washes of diluted red oil paint across the eyes create a sharp contrast with the monochromatic style of the rest of the artwork. The family is tied together by the red washes, and the red bloodline drawn across the three canvases. I made sure I did not over-emphasise Chinese culture in the work, portraying traditional Chinese characters in a way that can be enjoyed by people with or without knowledge of Chinese culture.

An artistic orange brushstroke design forms abstract shapes on a white background. Overlaid on the design is the word "artexpress" in a sleek, modern black font. The orange brush strokes appear dynamic and free-flowing, with splatters and tapered ends.Simplified waratah flower in deep red colour with the words NSW Government in dark blue stacked underneath.
