A Pet's Purpose

Drawing

Coloured pencil on paper

My body of work examines why pets are so significant in the lives of so many people. Animal companions provide a connection which, unlike human relationships, comes with a complete lack of judgement, as well as unconditional love and support. Pets become integral family members and impart a sense of purpose to those caring for them. Many people can relate to their pets’ unique quirks, habits and personalities, creating a sense of belonging. Drawing realistically, I express the lovable qualities of pets that have brought me comfort and happiness and that I consider a part of my family.

My artmaking practice has been influenced by the study and interpretation of the following artists: Ruby Welstead, Lorna Dandy.
