A Homage to Frank and Florence

Collection of Works

Graphite on Stonehenge paper

My body of work, A Homage to Frank and Florence, represents my appreciation of my great-grandparents, Frank and Florence. It acknowledges their lives: their relationship, endeavours and accomplishments. My intention is for the audience to recognise their own family history and how it has got them to where they are today. As a still life in the vanitas tradition, my work depicts the grief that comes with the loss of life, yet the legacy that endures in the family. I refrain from criticising humankind and rather focus on the celebration of life that we should all value in our families.

My artmaking practice has been influenced by the study and interpretation of Harmen Steenwyck, Still Life: An Allegory of the Vanities of Human Life.
