What Lies Within

Photomedia

Type C photograph

My body of work explores the way suffering can disturb and distort one’s interpretation of the world. While black and white film offers a fixed, unmanipulated depiction of a scene, the photograph represents a mind in turmoil and it is subconscious memories, even those we hope to forget, which decipher its meaning. Just as Walker Evans sought to depict ‘human dignity and resilience in the face of adversity’, I too hope to capture the human response to psychological adversity.

An artistic orange brushstroke design forms abstract shapes on a white background. Overlaid on the design is the word "artexpress" in a sleek, modern black font. The orange brush strokes appear dynamic and free-flowing, with splatters and tapered ends.Simplified waratah flower in deep red colour with the words NSW Government in dark blue stacked underneath.
