A king is a strong, untouchable public figure representing the people for their kingdom. Yet we often forget the human who lies beneath this image. My body of work represents Freud’s concept of Ego, Superego and Id. It is rooted in Korean history and culture, with the traditional attire expressing the kingdom's beauty and art that makes one proud to be a Korean today. Taking inspiration from Shakespeare's plays – Macbeth and Othello – and Niccolo Machiavelli, I began to see the importance of the mask and the human wearing it.

My artmaking practice has been influenced by the study and interpretation of the following artists: Caravaggio and Rembrandt van Rijn.
