Egress: the action of leaving a place
The title of my body of work, Egress, refers to an exit from reality – the audience is invited to retreat from their own world and enter the subconscious mind of the artist. My work represents a network of desolate architectural structures, interconnected by skeletal vertebrae bridges along the reference points of geometric composition. My intention was to convey how the peculiar symmetry of nature brings contentment, mesmerising the audience just as the lotus tree entrapped the lotus-eaters. The world of Egress is infinite, limited only by the capacity of the audience’s imagination.
My artmaking practice has been influenced by the study and interpretation of the following artists: Antoni Gaudí, Shaun Tan, Salvador Dali, Francisco Goya, Robert Gonzales.
