DOLCE FAR NIENTE
Printmaking
Dry point etching, pencil
The Italian expression la dolce far niente (the sweetness of doing nothing) beautifully captures a way of life. Inspired by my exchange to Italy, my body of work represents moments of cultural intimacy and shared humanity, with the intention of revealing how travel allows us to participate in the rhythms of another place. My work conveys a gentle reminder to slow down; to reflect. It communicates both memories and an invitation to pause, observe and feel. Through this work I encourage the audience to celebrate slowness, connection and the universal language of lived experience across cultures.
My artmaking practice has been influenced by the study and interpretation of the following artists: Rembrandt, Barbara Kruger, Gaston de Latenay, Edward Bawden, Gavin Jantjes.
