A MOTHER’S PALETTE
Drawing
Coloured pencil on paper
A Mother’s Palette investigates the power and singularity of artistic identity and how it can be shaped by those around us. My sisters and I have been guided into artistic spaces by our mother’s lifelong interest in visual art. In my body of work, my sisters and I are represented looking toward our mother, searching for inspiration and guidance, while she looks towards us. My work conveys how we are united by this influence, yet our individual artistic identities remain distinct. My work’s intention was to communicate personal truths while also commenting on the broader artistic community.
My artmaking practice has been influenced by the study and interpretation of the following artists: Frida Kahlo, Cindy Cavanagh.
