My intention in my body of work was to show an appreciation of traditional craft. The different figures convey the significance of history and culture, and the pillars incorporate patterns and styles which represent each period’s values and beliefs. I also chose pillars as they are the support system for bigger structures, just as older buildings provide the foundations for what surrounds us today. Through the large scale of my panels, I encourage the audience to consider how society no longer appreciates the emotional, cultural and historical value of traditional craft.
My artmaking practice has been influenced by the study and interpretation of the following artists: Michelangelo, Kehinde Wiley.
