My body of work is a satirical comment on wealth and opulence, where hands covered in jewellery represent actions from the lives of the wealthy. I chose this concept because I’m interested in how extreme wealth gives people an advantage but also puts them out of touch with everyday life. My work illustrates how empty and even absurd extreme affluence can become. I used exaggeration, irony and contrast in the detail and decoration with the intention of making the images look almost grotesque. Oil paints highlight richness and texture but also convey an emptiness. Wealth can provide privilege, but it can also isolate and desensitise people.
My artmaking practice has been influenced by the study and interpretation of the following artist: Tyler Shields, Damien Hirst, Ruslan Vigovsky.
