Based on my lived experience of anxiety and how it can consume and distort the mind, my body of work uses drowning to represent personal struggle, with the internal pressures and voicelessness that often accompany mental health challenges. Within the smaller panel, escaping bubbles convey suppressed expression, cries for help that rise but dissolve unheard. The larger panel is pierced by streaks of light with the intention of contrasting suffocation with the quiet possibility of relief, illustrating that hope persists even in emotional depths. As a diptych, my work communicates how anxiety is a fluctuating journey between struggle and renewal.
My artmaking practice has been influenced by the study and interpretation of the following artists: Samantha French, Tails Jekel.
