The things we frame

Oil on canvas with hand embroidery

My body of work investigates the framing that takes place in our lives – through a camera lens, and in the pictures we choose to display. Each piece examines a precious childhood memory, based on photos taken by my mother. The mellow colours communicate the haziness of the past, shaped by the photographer's lens and our own memories. The embroidery represents the connecting thread between my mum and each moment she photographed. It conveys the photographer's personal perspective weaving their emotions into each photo and turning it into something deeply meaningful and lasting.

My artmaking practice has been influenced by the study and interpretation of the following artists: Amelia Rozear, Leith Ross, Elena Rossato, Vincent van Gogh, Holly Overs, Nataliya Basmanova.
