The Winners represents the surreal sense of triumph you feel in winning on the sports field. My intention was to convey the euphoria of success in sport, as it is unexplainable in words. I used graphite pencil for my body of work, concentrating on facial expressions to investigate the moment where emotions seem to burst from the players. I encourage the audience to relate to the feelings conveyed, to connect the emotion to a personal experience, and for those without a sporting background to grasp the extremity of the feeling of success that sport can bring.
My artmaking practice has been influenced by the study and interpretation of the artist Dirk Dzimirsky.
