ROTTEN LUCK

Drawing

Coloured pencil on paper

In our brief lives we often find ourselves clinging to all sorts of material objects. Rotten Luck examines the paradox of modern life: do we represent our lives through objects, or do we define ourselves by material objects? We navigate an unpredictable and uncertain existence, obsessing over the many tangible objects that we associate with luck or hope. My intention in my body of work is to remind the audience of human mortality and the worthlessness of worldly goods, and to confront and reflect on the uncertainty of our own reality.

My artmaking practice has been influenced by the study and interpretation of the following artists: Pieter Claesz, Salvador Dali, Yasumasa Morimura, Julie Podstolski, Cecile Baird.
