All that is gold does not glitter
Drawing

Our 'addiction to pleasure' (doom scrolling, addiction to technology, vaping, gambling) hurts us and our world. The accessibility of these sources of addiction means we are disconnecting from the people we love, detaching from nature and unable to slow down. My body of work investigates the distortion of reality when we consume superficial methods of achieving happiness. I have contrasted the traditional symbols of gold (genuine value) and glitter (shallowness) to represent the difference between the true contentment of deep connections derived from substance and character and the temporary gratification of fleeting moments of joy that are external and artificial.
My artmaking practice has been influenced by the study and interpretation of the following artists: Makoto Suzuki, Devin Elle Kurtz, Claude Monet, Hayao Miyazaki
