Paper cutting, photographs

My body of work, Cutting through Hong Kong, examines the intersection of memory and place through the overlooked beauty of an architectural landscape. Hong Kong’s buildings can be overshadowed by the city’s bustling skyline. Using the intricate process of hand cutting paper, I convey a sense of longing for my homeland while encouraging the audience to reconsider their perceptions of urban environments. My work represents these buildings through their absence, a partially formed memory. My intention is to foster a deeper appreciation of their cultural significance and sophisticated design, and for the audience to reconsider their hidden beauty.

My artmaking practice has been influenced by the study and interpretation of the artist Ayumi Shibata.
