Adolescents express themselves authentically through their bedrooms. Although it rarely stays the same for long, this space is for making mistakes and mess, for exploring identity. The bedroom serves as a sanctuary of personal dwelling. Sometimes we invite our friends in and other times we slam the door and shut the world out. In our rooms, we cram onto the same shelf the past and the future while mementos of newfound communities spread across walls. The bedrooms represented in my body of work are inspired by the personalities and bedrooms of various friends.

My artmaking practice has been influenced by the study and interpretation of the following artists: Vincent van Gogh, Tracey Emin, Vewn (Victoria Vincent), Brett Whiteley, Henri Matisse, Tracey Moffat, Zineb Sedira, Donald Rodney, Elisabeth Cummings.
