Lamentation

Graphite pencil

In my body of work, I investigate the sombre and gritty emotions that arise during a lamentation. My work represents a harsh scene, and the grey-scale tones from my use of graphite pencil further emphasise the sadness of such an event. My intention in using references from art history, as seen in much of my reference material, was to more specifically convey the scene of the death of a son. My fascination with human anatomy led me to my subject matter and my method of practice involving graphite pencil, a meticulous and detailed process.

My artmaking practice has been influenced by the study and interpretation of the following artists: Michelangelo, Jacques-Louis David, Paul Baudry, Théodore Gericault.
