Ceramics, glaze

Kelp investigates the delicate balance and beauty of underwater ecosystems through the medium of ceramics. Each vessel and wall hanging examines the fluidity and fragility of kelp, with intricate frills conveying the look of its graceful strands. The blue, brown and speckled glazes communicate the sublime quality of the ocean depths, inviting the audience to reflect on the interconnectedness of life beneath and above the surface. Through this body of work, my intention is to represent the serenity and vulnerability of marine environments, with their intricate forms and textures that often go unnoticed.

My artmaking practice has been influenced by the study and interpretation of the following artists: Ken + Julia Yonetani, Courtney Mattison.
