My body of work is a queer love story about two senior students from polar opposite worlds whose pasts are intertwined. My intention was to use fantasy to investigate very human experiences of self-discovery, acceptance, grief and forgiveness. There are very few fantasy novels and comics where the main relationship is queer, leading to a lack of representation or the use of harmful stereotypes in the media. There was a lot of trial and error involved in making my work, including changing the world to fantasy midway through. This gave me more creative freedom with character appearances and world building.
My artmaking practice has been influenced by the study and interpretation of the following artists: Io Sakisaka, Blue Spring Ride; Rumiko Takahashi, Inuyasha; suu Morishita, Like a Butterfly; Dana Terrace, The Owl House.
