In the Comfort of My Dreams
Sculpture
Expanding foam, wood, clay, textiles
In my body of work, I examine my struggles to find my own identity among the pressures of external influences. My work, In the Comfort of my Dreams, represents a psychedelic dreamscape where I can escape the chaos of my thoughts. As I access this safe space through dreams, my work takes the form of a surreal and imaginative bed, where the contents of my domestic life have been taken and transformed. My intention was for the work to be a visual sanctuary offering joy and prompting the curiosity of others, as well as being a wonderland for the soul.
My artmaking practice has been influenced by the study and interpretation of the following artists: Tanya Schultz, Do Ho Suh, Tracy Emin, Xu Bing, Gao Rong.
