Wim Wenders' classic about an angel who tires of his purely ethereal life of overseeing the human activity of Berlin's residents, and longs for the tangible joys of physical existence when he falls in love with a mortal.
In 1980s West Berlin, two Archangels, Damiel and Cassiel, visible only to each other and human children, roam the city, invisible and alone, quietly observing the tapestry of life and attempting to bring solace to those in distress, though they sometimes fail. Among those they watch over are the cast and crew of a detective film set in Nazi Germany, featuring Peter Falk; an elderly man named Homer, who seeks eternal peace; and a circus troupe fighting for survival. Damiel confides in Cassiel his yearning to become human, driven by his desire to experience the depth of love, as he has fallen in love with a mortal (Solveig Dommartin).
