Event details
Travis, an aimless drifter who has been missing for four years, wanders out of the desert and must reconnect with society, himself, his life, and his family. Winner of the 1984 Palme d'Or.
Wim Wenders (Wings of Desire) brings his eye for landscape to the American Southwest in Paris, Texas, a moving character study written by playwright Sam Shepard.
It follows the mysterious, mute drifter Travis (Harry Dean Stanton) as he tries to reconnect with his young son, now living with his brother (Dean Stockwell) in Los Angeles, and his missing wife (Nastassja Kinski). Wenders produces a powerful statement on codes of masculinity and the myth of the American family, as well as a visual exploration of a vast, crumbling world of canyons and neon.
"A heartbreaking, profoundly American masterpiece...The climactic scene — set in a peep-show booth — features a stunning autobiographical monologue that’s one of the most mesmerizing pieces of screen acting ever filmed." — Rolling Stone
