The original owners of this land, the Gweagal clan of the Dharawal, were united by language, strong ties of kinship and survived as skilled hunter-fisher-gatherers in family groups scattered over much of the Cronulla and Sutherland areas. The intertwined connection they had with the land, the sea and the sky is captured in rock engravings that still exist on the plateaus where the Elders once looked out for the whales to arrive when the Gymea Lily started to flower.
