Hazelhurst is delighted to announce our inaugural CREATEspace project Continue by artist Hiromi Tango.
Continue is a participatory art project created by artist Hiromi Tango to celebrate the 25th anniversary of Hazelhurst Arts Centre. The interdisciplinary artwork includes installation, custom-built furniture and community art-making workshops. All of the materials have been sourced sustainably, either from existing resources from Hazelhurst or donated by community members. An important motif in the work is the letters ‘C’ and ‘O’ –the first two letters in the word ‘continue.’ Aside from being graphic components that resemble the continuity of a circle, the prefix ‘co’ also signifies co-operation and togetherness. Running for the duration of the exhibition, Continue involved drop-in sessions and workshops in which visitors could make small-scale sculptures from soft materials.
About the artist
Hiromi Tango (b. 1976) is an established interdisciplinary artist, based in the Bundjalung Country, Northern New South Wales. Her practice intersects with art, health, and neuroscience, exploring universal themes of humanity, sustainability, and nature. For two decades, Tango has focused on the intersection between art and mental health. Drawing on her own experiences of neurodivergence and anxiety, her installations and performances traverse the embodied self, the emotional terrain of our relationships with others, and the healing possibilities of art.
Tango’s work has been exhibited at major national art museums and regional galleries across Australia. Her work has also featured at international exhibitions in the United States, Belgium, Dubai and throughout Asia Pacific including Singapore, South Korea, Japan, Indonesia and New Zealand. Recent solo projects and exhibitions include: Hope (Hyde Park Barracks, Museums of History NSW, 2025); Garden | Healing Together (Tweed Valley Hospital 2024) and Gentle Petal (Museum of Brisbane, 2024-2025).
