Responding to the idea that “Women hold up half the sky”, The Broad Collective are reclaiming the landscape as a locus of feminine strength. They propose that landscape is not simply a pretty picture, or a statement of ownership and power. Rather, the expressing of landscape, in a range of media, and as cultural process, represents the formation of personal and collective identities.
Exploring connections between landscape, identity, personal and collective stories, is fundamental to understanding human sense of place. The artists hope that viewers find resonance with their own feelings about land and belonging, or discover new perspectives.
